Research Proposals

Below are summaries of the research I proposed throughout grad school, as well as the competencies each demonstrate. Please click the download button for each to obtain a PDF copy of the proposal.

Personnel Psychology Research Proposal (PSY 518)

THE ROLE OF PERCEIVED PERSON-JOB FIT IN SALARY INCREASE AND PROMOTION DECISIONS

The research proposed hopes to examine the gendered wage gap through the lens of Perceived Person-Job Fit. Developing this project requires an in-depth understanding of research design methodology, including risks to validity and reliability that need to be considered, as well as the benefits and limitations of experimental manipulations. Additionally, I demonstrate a deep understanding of different, less common social and organizational psychological theories, including person-job fit and tokenism. I demonstrate sound statistical reasoning skills by identifying the required analyses to test the proposed hypotheses. In addition to all of this, I demonstrate my ability to synthesize varying sources of information into a cohesive argument, package the information in a digestible form, and develop new hypotheses based on gaps and/or ideas in the literature. This results in what could be an important finding when considering potential reasons why women still encounter a glass ceiling for upper management and executive-level roles.

Research Methods Research Proposal (PSY 512)

THE ROLE OF TELECOMMUTING, SEXUAL IDENTITY MANAGEMENT STRATEGY, AND INDUSTRY ON WORK-RELATED STRESS IN GAY MEN

The purpose of this research is to improve the existing understanding of how intersecting social identities influence work-related stress by looking at how varying degrees of outness and telecommuting might interact. This project demonstrates my understanding of research designs that include variables with multiple levels and interactions. Additionally, I demonstrate my deep understanding of intersectionality issues in the workplace specifically related to sexual identity, as well as an understanding of the nuance in difference sexualities and how they might present in the workplace. My ability to critically analyze existing literature and condense complex issues into a concise set of hypotheses speaks to my cognitive flexibility.

Organizational Psychology Research Proposal (PSY 522)

THE IMPACT OF STRESS AND INTERRUPTIONS ON SELF-EFFICACY

This study seeks to further understand the relationship between stress and self-efficacy, as well as provide evidence for a potential moderator of the relationship: interruptions. This research proposal demonstrates my understanding of test-retest research designs as well as the importance and utility of experimental controls. Additionally, the hypotheses demonstrate my understanding of organizational psychological concepts such as self-efficacy theory and conservation of resources theory. My deep understanding of advanced statistical concepts such as repeated measures ANOVA and moderators is demonstrated by the analyses I propose within the text. My ability to identify assumptions in the current literature and extend research questions to fill the gaps is further demonstrated throughout the paper, as well as my ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise way.
